What we do?

At GAWIREA, we believe that renewable energy is not only about technology but about people. That is why every program we create is designed to empower communities while addressing the urgent challenge of climate change. We begin with education and capacity building, organizing trainings, workshops, and awareness campaigns that introduce communities to sustainable energy and green solutions. In these spaces, girls and young women are placed at the center, encouraged to see themselves as leaders in the energy transition. Our second pillar is technology for community resilience. Rather than bringing in complex systems from the outside, we work hand in hand with local people to co-create simple, low-tech solutions that truly respond to their needs. One powerful example is the solar powered sago grater in South Papua, which has transformed how women process food, saving them hours of labor while strengthening their livelihoods and dignity. The third pillar is youth development and green jobs. We believe that the future of Indonesia’s clean energy transition depends on the next generation. We give young people the tools and experiences they need, whether in microgrids, solar installations, or other renewable technologies, so that they can not only imagine but also build a cleaner and more sustainable future for all.
